1st Thursday + Parking for Peanuts

The roll out of “Parking for Peanuts” was a huge success, with 65 cars taking advantage of the program yesterday. Someone who used the free parking offer wrote the following:

“The free parking for last nights First Thursday’s Gallery walk was
great. The attendants at the garage were friendly and professional. We
went to over twenty galleries and did not have to worry about the
safety of our car or cost of parking. There was a baseball game at the
same time and this made it so easy to find parking quickly. Thanks
again for this wonderful program.”

Kudos to Nitze-Stagen for organizing it (and for rolling it out the same day as a Mariners game). Parking for Peanuts will continue to take place on 1st Thursdays from now until Labor Day, with the possibility of the program to extend to Saturdays and Sundays.

I wasn’t able to really participate in First Thursday and make it to the amazing galleries and shops around the neighborhood because we were running late for the Mariners Game (and I am only partially embarrassed to admit it).

I was able to take a few snapshots of activity around Occidental Square on my way to the game, though:

I love the little girls and boys who were playing jump rope in Occidental Mall. Eventually, one of the girls became tired and a parent had to take over, but it’s just the spontaneous activity that is so great to see in the square.
