57 Biscayne: New artist studios in Pioneer Square

Faced with eviction from the storied but dangerously sieve-like Western Building, artist and leaseholder Jane Richlovsky parlayed her relocation funds from the Department of Transportation into the development of thirteen new studios out of a vacant office space at 1st and Cherry. Dubbed ’57 Biscayne in acknowledgement of their origin in eminent domain (points if you can identify the song lyric), the new studios are truly a phoenix out of the ashes, providing light, spacious, safe work space to displaced artists from the Western Building and others, including painters, jewelry makers, printmakers, photographers, videographers, book designers, and a letterpress.

They will be celebrating our grand opening at a gala on Saturday, November 12 from 6-10 PM.
110 Cherry Street, Suite 200

[p.s. I checked out their website and it looks like they’re already full! But you can add your name to a waiting list to be considered for future openings]
