Have you ever wanted to walk on the viaduct?

Well, now is your chance.

The viaduct is going to be closed for inspection this Saturday and SDOT and WSDOT are taking the opportunity to conduct short walking tours.

Where: Tours begin near the stadiums before continuing to the viaduct’s First Avenue S. on-ramp and upper deck.

When: Saturday, Oct. 16. Tours will be held between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and will last approximately one hour each.

Cost: Free

Contact: To participate in the tour, send an e-mail to viaduct@wsdot.wa.gov or call 1–888– 298-5463

Note: Space is limited and reservations are required. No children under the age of 16 or pets are allowed on the tours for safety reasons.

p.s. Speaking of the Viaduct? WSDOT recently conducted a survey “to ask people what they know about the plan to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct,” and apparently they don’t know much.

For example, although most respondents (84%) say they have been paying attention to the debate over what to do about the viaduct, only one-in-four (27%) voters is aware that the current plan is to replace the viaduct with a bored tunnel. (awesome)

PubliCola has a bullet point commentary on the survey results here.
