Historic South Downtown Town Hall this Wednesday

There is an upcoming HSD town hall meeting this Wednesday evening —

“Our program for the evening includes a small awards ceremony acknowledging each of our grantees.  We also invite each of you to participate by displaying any materials (posters, photos, brochures, etc.) that exemplify the project for which you received funds.  We will have a small area set aside for each grantee to showcase all the wonderful work you have done over this past year. Should you require easels, please let us know and we will make sure they are available for your usage.

The evening will also include our board-member election and ratification, as well as a brief update from our Board President regarding the future of Historic South Downtown and our next grant-making round.  ”

If you are unable to make the meeting, you may still vote on potential board members through an absentee ballot. (Absentee ballots must be dropped off at 409 Maynard Ave South, Suite P8 (IDEA Space office) by 5pm on 11/16/11.)

The Historic South Downtown, Community Preservation & Development Authority, (HSD), is a non-profit organization. It is the first agency of its kind established by the state to work with two specifically designated communities to restore and enhance the health, safety, and economic well-being of residents, businesses, property owners, and employees. The point of focus is an area adversely impacted by the construction of, or the ongoing operation of, major public facilities, public works, and capital projects with significant public funding. Similar to the Public Stadium Authority, HSD does not have the power of eminent domain nor any authority to levy taxes or special assessments. Rather, it relies upon state appropriations.

HSD is governed by a locally-elected nine-member board of directors. The agency is required to maintain public accountability to its constituency through elections and through an annual Town Hall meeting and to the State through biennial reports to the appropriate committees of the Legislature.
