Ideas for Seattle – help P2 get into the top 5

Ideas for Seattle is a website that let’s anyone submit ideas for the future of our city (on behalf of Mayor-Elect McGinn). You can then log in and are given 10 votes to disperse among the ideas already submitted (a max of 3 per idea).

Here are the top 10 ideas right now:

  1. Expand as much light rail and subway as possible (I have a post coming up about this…)
  2. Create a lid over I-5 in Seattle
  3. Foot/Bike Patrols for SE Seattle (as long as they’re cops and not more MID employees with no real power)
  4. Legalize marijuana and tax it (ha)
  5. Install sidewalks throughout Seattle
  6. Secure funding for city libraries
  7. Make Seattle carbon neutral
  8. Bring anchor tenant to key arena
  9. City-funded public markets (yes!)
  10. Ranked-choice voting for all elected officials (boring)

Number 11 is Clean up Chinatown/International District with 97 votes. Guess where Revitalize Pioneer Square is? One page 4 with 7 votes. And three of those just came from me.

I have received a few emails from people asking how they can help – this is something small, but every little bit helps, right? So go create a log in (it’s fast), and add as many votes to the Revitalize Pioneer Square entry as possible. Help it make it to the top of the list! Since the website is on behalf of Mayor-Elect McGinn, one can only hope that he’ll pay attention to the ideas at the top of the list.

Do you know what is beating P2 right now? Well, I can’t make fun of them because there are lots of good ideas, but c’mon… we should at least be higher than the International District. And I’m glad that now that I voted, we’re beating “Get rid of the ride free area for buses” (worst suggestion ever… many cities, including Vancouver, are jealous of this program).

So log in, participate in the comment section and let’s continue to plead for incentives and revitalization efforts for P2.

[UPDATE]

“Revitalize Pioneer Square” is now in 11th place with 116 votes — only 6 votes away from the top 10. Good work — keep the votes coming!

p.s. I also voted for City Funded Public Markets (2), Public Restrooms with paid attendants (2), and Expand the Streetcar Network to Link SLU, Downtown, Pioneer Square, ID + 1st Hill/Capitol Hill (3)
