Mardi Gras comes back to Pioneer Square

Yes, my friends, it’s true. Someone is finally gutsy enough to bring Mardi Gras back to Pioneer Square. (for some background, see this post on the Seattle Mardi Gras riots in 2001)

The group that originally intended to do Mardi Gras on the 10th anniversary of the riots ended up backing out, saying that “the permitting process was simply too restrictive and too anti-event in Pioneer Square for us to feel comfortable moving forward.” This new group has brought together all of the different bars / favorite party spots in the neighborhood to celebrate this very special event next Tuesday, March 8th.

In addition to many other activities (which you can find out about on their Facebook page), Shotgun Ceremonies will be performing FREE 24 hour weddings in various bars — meaning the marriage license will only be valid for 24 hours.

Places you can get married, shotgun-style include: The Central Saloon, J & M, Tikki Bob’s, Fuel, McCoy’s Firehouse, Cowgirls Inc., Last Supper Club, and Trinity. They will be hopping bars on Friday, March 4th from 9pm – 12am and Sat March 5th from 9pm – 12am, and even Tuesday, March 8th from 7pm – 12am.
