Often called the “father of Pioneer Square,” architect Ralph D. Anderson, who died Oct. 24 at 86, saw the beauty and potential in the neighborhood’s decrepit old buildings in the 1960s and began a movement to restore Seattle’s historic district.

Main Street in Pioneer Square and see a construction crew ripping out the tracks of the old George Benson Waterfront Streetcar, don’t panic. This doesn’t mean the powers that be have forever given up on the Waterfront Streetcar: it just means the tracks are in the way.

Streetcar line headed for Seattle’s First Hill (Seattle Times)
The Sound Transit board voted Thursday to spend $133 million for a 2.5-mile streetcar line through the First Hill neighborhood. The exact route from Pioneer Square and the location of a maintenance yard will be determined by the Seattle City Council.
