It’s great to be back! I’ve missed a lot of news in the neighborhood the past two weeks, but it was great to go offline for a little while. Hope you all had a great break and have set some great goals for 2011. This week (or next), I’ll share with you some goals that I think Pioneer Square should have for the upcoming year, including a plan of events from the promotions committee.

Viaduct Tunnel May Boot Artists From Pioneer Square (Q13 fox)
More than 100 artists in Pioneer Square are looking for a new home after WSDOT alerted them it may need to demolish the century old Western Building.

Seattle artists building must vacate before tunnel drilling starts (NWCN)
Out of 169 buildings along the proposed $1.9 billion Alaskan Way Viaduct and Seawall Replacement Project, the Washington State Department of Transportation said it’s concerned about the structural integrity of the artists’ conclave. He said the building, which already has large cracks running up and down the inside, likely can’t handle the shifting soft soil that will occur when deep-bored tunneling begins.

Metro rerouting buses starting next week in Pioneer Square, SODO as work kicks off on Alaskan Way Viaduct and other projects (West Seattle Herald)
Two construction projects begin next Monday, Jan. 3 that will create temporary reroutes for several King County Metro Transit bus routes that normally travel on First Avenue South through Pioneer Square and the SODO area of Seattle. Then in February, those buses – and others – will have new long-term routing.

Downtown traffic bottlenecks to begin as Highway 99 project starts up (Seattle Times)
In the first big traffic bottleneck caused by the Highway 99 tunnel project, the state next week will squeeze First Avenue South near Qwest Field to one lane each direction.

On December 29th at around 12:22 a.m., West Precinct patrol officers responded to a burglary of a bar in the 1000 block of 1st Avenue S (down by Qwest Field).
