Downtown Seattle alleys undergoing transformations (King5)
It took more than three years, but residents and business owners worked together. Today the alley, located off of South Main Street between First and Second Avenue in Pioneer Square, is lined with artwork. It has even become a gathering place for neighborhood events.

Mixed results from revised street-parking rates (Seattle Times)
Raising street-parking rates earlier this year in four busy Seattle districts made it easier to find a parking space there, according to a study the Seattle Department of Transportation was to release Monday. But lowering rates in 11 other neighborhoods didn’t fill on-street spaces as much as city leaders had hoped.

Seattle moves to raise parking fines another $5 (Seattle Times)
Overtime parkers, who make up about half of parking citations, would pay $44. Penalties for most other violations — such as parking in a loading zone, in front of a fire hydrant or at a bus stop — would rise to $47 from the current $42.

Will Seattle have a major earthquake? (Seattle PI)
The area’s last big earthquake was the Nisqually quake the morning of Feb. 28, 2001. The intraslab earthquake was centered northeast of Olympia and other than a heart-related death thought to be tied to the quake, nobody was killed. There was significant property damage to the Starbucks headquarters in Sodo and to some Pioneer Square buildings; overall about 400 injuries were reported.
