President Obama stopping by Pioneer Square today

It’s been known for a little while that President Obama was coming to Seattle to host a few fundraisers. The exciting news for our neighborhood is that he’s stopping by, including plans to talk with the owners of Grand Central Bakery in a private meeting. Other meeting attendees include Senator Patty Murray and Secretary Gary Locke.

Last week, OED submitted ideas of several Pioneer Square businesses that are considered good models of small, independent businesses. Apparently, Grand Central Bakery was chosen partly because they do local sourcing.

The neighborhood is already filled with news vans and secret service agents this morning, and they are planning on closing down streets and Occidental Square Park late morning/early afternoon. I’m tempted to leave work to try and catch a glimpse, but it’s not certain where he will meeting, and the local police have been very guarded about his schedule today. The Seattle Times reports, however, that he is meeting with the GCB owners at 11:40 this morning.
