First Thursday Art Walk

Stopped by the First Thursday Art Walk last week during set up.

Unfortunately, because of the possibility of rain that night, many vendors and artists didn’t stick around. File 009a

First Thursday is a great event because it fills Occidental Square with people — it shows that Pioneer Square can really be a great place. The art galleries stay open, and some have musicians performing, things to drink, amazing art to gaze at. For anyone who hasn’t done “the walk” yet — it’s a great experience that shouldn’t be missed.

I personally feel that when it started raining, it felt right (you know, like Seattle), but I’m looking forward to next month, when there will hopefully be more vendors and I can take time to get more pictures of their art, photography, and jewelry.

One really fun place to stop in is the glass gallery (not sure of the actual name) — they have some gorgeous vases and glass art that you can look at, but they are also actively blowing glass (can you say that?).  They were working in the back room and you can watch a vase take shape from a ball of molten glass. You can also buy a glass stick for 50 cents that your kids will enjoy playing with.
