Art at the First Thursday Art Walk

As I mentioned in the previous post, I spent time walking around Pioneer Square, taking photos of different artists that had opened their galleries. I took so many photos that I’m breaking it up into two posts — one with art at the market and the other with people at the market.

Enjoy!

Loving the necklace I bought from semilla designs (+ already wearing it today)

Great (and varying) art from Sara Forbes:

Then I headed over to the Chief Seattle Club, a “social service center in Seattle devoted exclusively to meeting the needs of urban homeless American Indians, Alaska Natives, and First Nations People.”

I didn’t know that they usually opened a gallery during First Thursday, but was pleasantly surprised by their featured artist (and one of their members). Her name is Zona Shroyer and her work is the culmination of 10 different people (but all painted by her). Her artwork conveys “refuge, release, expression, rebirth, and healing.”

After the CSC, I headed over to the Tashiro Kaplan Lofts, where I can always find great art. The G. Gibson Gallery is currently featuring Saya Moriyasu and Maija Fiebig:

Another stop at the TK Lofts was at Patent Pending Industries — I blogged about their retrospective gallery show back in July. As the first time their 11 year body of influential poster work will be seen in its (near) entirety, I had plenty to choose from:

Next up? Barry Connolly, a fantastic painter who recently moved from Georgetown to the TK lofts

Are you saturated with art yet? Because after TK Lofts, I headed back to Occidental Mall to visit some of the more “traditional” Pioneer Square galleries, starting with artforte:

“Inner Peace” by Valurie Stewart

“Memnia” by Jennifer Mawby

“Girl Talk” by Sharika Roland

The only thing I regret about walking into Ornamo is that I didn’t take a picture of the paper moose hanging on the wall. But check out that wallpaper and clock!

If you missed out on the art walk this month, don’t worry, it runs all year. You can print off a map and get more information at First Thursday’s website.
