News Roundup

So, obviously Pioneer Square is all over the news because of yesterday’s announcement that EBBC is moving to Capitol Hill. In order to share all of this news with you (without my commentary) in a quick manner, here you go:

A bookstore moves, but the plot is still developing for Pioneer Square– an attempt by the Seattle Times to put a semi-positive spin on EBBC moving and to look at helping P2, instead of just reporting that it’s in ruins (which it isn’t).

[OK.. minor commentary]

Elliott Bay Book Co. still deciding about cafe for new Capitol Hill location but I already told you that yesterday. Also, I think the cafe should stay and keep the name. And sell some books upstairs in the space vacated. It would be like nothing changed.

Elliott Bay Book Co. moving to Capitol Hill by the Seattle Times — gives a little bit more information about the new neighborhood, how CH businesses feel about it, and whether or not Aaron moved there so he could walk to work.

Thoughts About Elliott Bay Book Company A post I rather enjoyed reading by a former employee of EBBC, who now works for The Stranger. With 74 comments below debating the topic, Paul Constant provides an in-depth analysis for the situation, and then also takes a look at what this means for Pioneer Square. He gives insight to how the city hasn’t done much to help P2, and sums it up with stating that it’s good that EBBC is moving to Capitol Hill (good for them, I mean).

Capitol Hill Seattle Blog Discusses with glee the move to their ‘hood.

And I didn’t want to link to this CHS post because I’m annoyed by some of it (or let’s be honest, all of it), but I appreciate the comment made by a local P2 business owner and resident that gives some insight into what she feels this means for her.

And then to end with a little bit of levity regarding EBBC, check out this image from a sign at the bookstore.

Note: I met with OED yesterday and had a very interesting discussion about our neighborhood. Update coming tomorrow.
