Seattle City Light resuming work in Pioneer Square

Seattle City Light is planning to resume its work to remove five major power lines (feeders) off the Alaskan Way Viaduct (AWV).

The feeders must come off the AWV in preparation for the viaduct replacement program and under its tight time line. After honoring the holiday moratorium on construction, Seattle City Light plans to restart its work between S. Main Street and S. Jackson Street on Jan. 3rd. New/rebuilt underground ducts and vaults are to be placed in the west side of 1st Avenue South between Cherry Street and S. Jackson Street. The project not only responds to the viaduct replacement program but also promotes the reliability of the electrical system in the area.

The following two documents detail the planned sequence of construction including the block-by-block closure of southbound 1st Avenue S. and related detours. The first was recently sent to City Light customers one block on either side of 1st Avenue S. between Cherry and S. Jackson Streets. The second, particular to the section between S. Jackson and S. Main Streets, was handed to ground floor retailers and customers located above them.
