2 SPD officers assaulted during melees as clubs closed in Pioneer Square SODO (KOMO)
Two Seattle police officers were hurt trying to break up fights that escalated after large club events ended in Pioneer Square SODO early Monday morning. People began streaming out into the streets in the 2900 block of 1st Avenue South as the 2 a.m. closing hour loomed, said Renee Witt with Seattle police.

A group of us were sitting in Caffe Umbria, off Occidental mall in Pioneer Square on Friday afternoon. Suddenly a very large, very red, very shiny fire truck pulls into the brick-paved mall, which bans autos and is one of the finest pedestrian streets in the city. It slows to a stop. Four firefighters emerge slowly from the cab. We wonder if there’s a fire or what?

We go get a custom cigar and maybe a six pack or two, and we’ll see the people from the night before who were just… on one. They’re the homeless people and the crackheads. We see these guys all the time, to where we’ve developed a relationship. It’s like, ‘Oh hey! How you guys doing?’ Toss this guy a beer. That’s what the “powdered donuts” phrase refers too. We were like, ‘Man these guys are in our everyday environment, we should incorporate that into our music.’
