Urgent! Encampments, tents, and outreach

Hello neighbors,

Next Wednesday, May 27th, City Council will hold a special session to discuss legislation introduced by Tammy Morales. Ms. Morales, who represents a portion of Pioneer Square, is asking to stop the removal of all tents and encampments. (legislation CB 119796)
The Alliance for Pioneer Square, along with other city partners and neighborhoods, is taking a more compassionate view (IMO) in their public safety letter below. The letter asks for continued support of the Navigation (NAV) team and continued outreach with an eye on public safety for all. If you are not familiar with what NAV  does:

The Alliance would like your support in joining them by signing onto the letter below. The letter is in a Google Form. Google requires you to sign into their G-suite account to complete the form. That said, the form is set to accept multiple submissions from one person, so if someone does not have a Google account then another person with an account can complete the form for them.

While I rarely get political, what we see happening in our neighborhood cannot continue. I love our neighborhood and right now, it is not safe for anyone; not residents, not businesses, not those in the tents and encampments. We are seeing human waste on our sidewalks, violence, shootings, needles everywhere, and so much more. We need to get a handle on this, for everyone’s sake, with tools and solutions before encampments get out of control. We have ALWAYS taken care of our neighbors, especially those in need. It’s what we DO here and we do it well, in a fair and balanced manner. While COVID-19 is frightening, using it as an excuse to do nothing, allow encampments to grow, and keep our most vulnerable on the streets is wrong and inhumane.
I urge your support of the Alliance letter.
